Rapids Lie in Limbo After Tie to Fire

On a warm and windy day Saturday, the opportunity rose from the ashes of last summer by the likes of Shaun Schafer and the Colorado Rapids. Going on what George Tanner brought to my desires of journalism and being persistent, my field pass (season pass) was waiting for me at the media check-in at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. It was a good day; it was a windy day after all. Perhaps the wind would blow some luck towards the Rapids as they took on the always intense Chicago Fire?

After a colder and just as windy day on Friday, soccer and shooting on the field in Commerce City seemed so much more appealing than trying to enjoy Metro State women's softball in Golden.

Softball was very exciting with the girls ripping apart Mines 10-1, especially when Tara Mickelson doubled and drove in 3 runs to frost the cake in a Game 1 win. However, my fingers were frozen, my hair was blown to Kansas and I could only enjoy the scenery that Golden has to offer, being right next to the Colorado mountains.

Soccer lent a reliable and decent hand as the Rapids and Fire played to a 2-2 tie. The moments were there. In my hands, through the lens and the presence on the field, I enjoyed all that the new season brought out.

After moving into my new place with Emily in the days prior to the home opener, I thought about the move less and less. The rewards of smelling the grass, hearing the crowd and watching soccer again melted away all the stress from lifting box after box and placing furniture randomly around our apartment as the canon from the north stands shot gray smoke onto the field.

As the game played out and the wind died down, the last reward of a cold beer at the Cantina at Dick's was the icing on the cake. It's good to be back!
